For years, John and Justine have kept Plot 9 3/4 (aka Daughters of Charity) house running.
As a security guard, John has his quirks, but he works hard to keep the compound in top shape, and has been kind, trustworthy and caring. Justine battles the dust weekly by mopping floors and washing clothes. Anyone who has lived in this house would agree that we couldn't have made it through the days without their hard work.
I'm leaving Uganda at the end of this year, and the house will be left in new (but good) hands. That said, there isn't a place for John and Justine to work. I've spoken to them about what they'd like to do in the future, and both stated that they're getting a little too old to continue working as they have been.
Justine would like to learn to bake. I'm going to teach her, and help her with some marketing, but she'll need basic equipment and ingredients to get started, as well as a few month's salary to ease the transition.
John and his wife have put together a plan to open a store together back in his home village. They've been researching their local market- asking the neighbors what is missing from their area. They've come up with a whole list of items that are commonly used, but only available for purchase by long journey to the nearest city.
I'm asking those who have known them over the years to pitch in. I'd like to raise $1,800 for the following:
-Justine's baking equipment
-Justine's salary (2-3 months)
-John's initial stock
-John's store fixtures (shelves, etc.)
-Three months of rent for a store
-Money to transport the store stock to his village
