Help Joe Campbell Enjoy the Retirement He Deserves

Thirty-two years ago, Joe Campbell unknowingly changed my life forever.

In the early hours of the morning, Joe went to use a phone box in Forest Gate. As he walked closer, he noticed what he first thought was a fish and chip wrapper on the floor. It wasn't. It was me – a newborn baby who had been abandoned.

Joe picked me up, called the police, and made sure I was safe. That single act of kindness gave me a chance at life.

What many people don't know is that Joe never forgot me. Every year, he brought birthday cards, gifts and money to the social services office, hoping they would reach me. Sadly, that contact was stopped.

In 2016, after a media appeal, we found each other again. Since then, Joe has been a constant source of love, support and family. He has stood beside me through some of the hardest moments of my life, never asking for anything in return.

Joe is one of the kindest, most selfless people I have ever known. He deserves a retirement filled with comfort, peace and the freedom to enjoy life after spending decades putting others first.

This fundraiser is my way of giving something back to the man who gave me everything without even knowing it. Every donation, no matter the size, will go towards helping Joe enjoy the retirement he truly deserves.

My current legal name is Kiran Sheikh, although am in the process of legally changing my name to April and have submitted the relevant application to the court. This is why you may see me publicly using the name April, including on my social media.

I am raising this money for Joe Campbell, the man who found me abandoned as a newborn and got me to safety. After many years apart, Joe and I were reunited, and he has become an incredibly important part of my life.

This fundraiser is a surprise for Joe, so he does not currently know that I am doing this for him. However, members of Joe's family are aware of the fundraiser and fully support what I am trying to do for him.

The aim is to give Joe some financial security and, depending on how much we manage to raise, help him reduce his working hours or hopefully retire earlier. The money will be for Joe's benefit and can be used towards his everyday living costs and household expenses, helping replace some of the income he would otherwise need to continue working to earn.

As Joe does not yet know about the fundraiser, I am managing the funds on his behalf for now. The money raised is for Joe and will not be used by me for my own personal expenses. When the fundraiser is revealed to him, my intention is to provide the funds to Joe for his benefit.
