Prenatal/L&D Medical Mission!

For those of you that don't know me, I'm Joanna and I've been a labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn nurse for about 12 years. I've worked a variety of hours from per diem to full time over the years as I've balanced the needs of a growing and ever changing family. During the last three years in my position as a nurse, I took responsibility for optional learning opportunities including circulating in the OR, Level II Nursery care and the role of Charge Nurse. I am also the safe patient handling coordinator for my unit, managing trainings and effectively changing safer practices on the unit as it relates to injuries in the work place. As such, I then promoted to Professional Nurse III after review of my practice by the Professional Advancement Committee, a major accomplishment that I hold dear to my heart.

Over the past year, I've returned to per diem work to pursue opportunities both within my field as well as the field of teaching. I've accepted an adjunct faculty position with a local university and will be teaching nursing students during their clinical rotations.

The opportunity to work per diem and during clinical semesters leaves me with room to consider other endeavors and adventures. I've decided that it's the right time in my life to take some of my Mother/Baby education to other areas of the world that can actually benefit greatly from some of what I would consider to be the most basic of information.  With help from your donations, I'll be traveling with Partners for World Health in May to Senegal Africa to bring prenatal care, screenings, and education to the communities that will directly benefit from Project 10,000 and more.  You can read more about the trip by clicking the link above.

I'm incredibly excited to visit the country, the communities, and the women impacted by Partners for World Health. Volunteering in a part of the world that is largely suffering promises to be a humbling and deeply personal experience for me that will also benefit the women and communities we can impact. Your support reaches far beyond my trip, and impacts generations of quality care for women in less fortunate circumstances.

If you prefer to have a receipt for tax purposes, please reach out to me directly about how you can do so. My email is [email redacted].

Thank you so much for joining me on this adventure. ~Joanna
