JMU Dance for Parkinson's Disease
Donation protected
Dance for Parkinson’s Disease (DfPD) is a non-profit organization founded by the Mark Morris Dance Group in Brooklyn, NY that offers accessible dance classes to community members with Parkinson’s Disease. The classes combine music, movement, and creativity as a form of therapeutic exercise that addresses specific symptoms of the disease. James Madison University’s Dance for Parkinson’s Disease program was founded in 2019 by professor emeritus Kate Trammell. This local program offers bi-weekly classes available both in person and on zoom, gives students teaching opportunities, provides a strong community for participants, and fosters a supportive service-learning environment for everyone involved! Donations to our local program will provide JMU students with scholarships to complete teacher training under DfPD Brooklyn.
