Update: Surgery didn’t go as planned. Doctor did have to take him back due to complications after the first. He will be remaining in the hospital until further notice. Please! Help Him and mom out! Anything helps!!
Not really sure how to start out one of these, but this here is my stepdad, James (Jim) Reeves. Quite a few of y’all know him, but for those that don’t, let me give you a quick rundown on who he is and his story.
Jim was an auctioneer when he and my mother first got together back in 2014 and had been doing it for 30 years total, up until Covid hit and he was among the select few that got laid off. Jim’s a talker. Anyone who knows him will vouch. He loves to cut up and make jokes. He’s all about making other people laugh and putting the ones he loves most first.
Well, fast forward to March of 2023, Jim was then diagnosed with stage 3 throat cancer. He did chemo and radiation treatments for about 6-7 months, and the cancer was gone! Up until they did a biopsy recently and brought the cancer back. The past year has been very difficult for both my stepdad and my mom. Jim is a foodie, and since the cancer, he has been unable to swallow properly, can’t drink without a thickening agent, and has lost way too much weight. The picture shown was taken in April of last year and he doesn’t even look the same.
My mother is a strong woman, and I give her props for sticking by his side through this all and being his caretaker (quite literally). Now, with the cancer being back, Jim now needs to get his vocal cords removed in order for the cancer to be gone and for him to live. They will soon be drowning in payments for insurance deductibles, food supplements, and traveling expenses from Hubbard to Dallas. Any kind of donation will help and will be appreciated. Thank you.
