Each September is global Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Cooper lost his life to Sarcoma as an adolescent.
At age 16 he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer known as Osteosarcoma. His family, through this tragedy, formed Crbf.org.au, and continue to work tirelessly to improve the treatment options for sarcoma.
They not only focus on treatment, but support and fund research, clinical trials and patients, along with their families affected by Sarcoma.
This September I hope to raise money for them to continue their work. Sarcoma accounts for 20% of childhood cancer, yet receives 1% of cancer research funding.
Did you know...
Because of the treatments they had as kids, more than 99 per cent of childhood cancer survivors will have a chronic health problem and 96 per cent will have severe or life-threatening conditions.
Much of what we know about treating adult cancers has been learned from childhood cancer research. Some aspects of cancer treatment today, such as combination chemotherapy, can be traced to paediatric cancer research.
