Jessica’s 50k ultramarathon
This summer I will be taking on the challenge of running a 50k ultramarathon along the Kent coast, to help raise money for SNAAP.
Based in Herne Bay SNAAP are a wonderful charity that offer families who have disabled children and young people, either diagnosed or undiagnosed, a wide range of services and support. These services include:
Family Support (includes DLA forms, help with education/EHCP's, support in school meetings, benefit checks, help after diagnosis, behaviour plan management and strategies, visual timetables, or just a listening ear)
Weekly clubs - SNAAP-EY's (parent and toddler group), Zone Out (youth club) and Stay & Play (after school club)
Saturday clubs and school holiday playschemes for children with complex needs.
School holiday activities for children with less complex needs (Chill youth and Buzz playscheme)
Book lending library and McClaren special Buggy and wheelchair hire
Confident Me - programme to help children manage behaviour and anxieties
Your Voice Matters - children's participation group
Tics and Tourette's children and young peoples holiday activities and parent support group
Community Share - food, toiletries and sanitary products for those who need a little help
SNAAP rely heavily on donations but like so many charities, they are facing serious financial challenges. To continue providing these much needed services, they need your help.
I’m a pretty average runner at best so this is a massive challenge for me, both physically and mentally as I will be doing the run completely on my own. I will be following a training plan and tracking my run with Strava, running from whitstable to Faversham, from Faversham to Herne bay and then back to whitstable. It’s a big challenge but I’m hoping this will really encourage people to donate. Every penny counts! Thank you :)
