Heather & Jennifer's Journey to Becoming Mommies

Above you will find a video about us, our family, and how it has grown.

In the Winter of 2008, I (Jennifer) met Heather while working at Circuit City in Louisville, KY. Two years later we began dating. On our second date, Heather was telling me about her day at work at a small medical clinic in Southern Indiana. As she sat across from me in a dimly lit O'Charley's and described a little boy who was scared of having his blood pressure taken and how she told him that the cuff was just going to give his arm a big bear hug, I knew she was the woman I was going to marry. I was in love.
Fast forward to Spring 2013, we were married in New York City. It was one of the few states that allowed same sex marriage at the time. Heather and I were accompanied by close family. A family that has grown, changed, and evolved into something beautiful.

Eager to add our own little addition to the family, the following summer, in August of 2013 we began the process of IUI (Intrauterine Insemination). Heather has always had a great desire to be a mother and to experience pregnancy, and while I would love to be a mother I do not possess the desire to be pregnant. Thus she was the one that was to be carrying. We tried two rounds of IUI in Louisville, KY that unfortunately failed. Anyone who has dealt with infertility knows the toll it can take on you, your partner, your bank account, your health... After these two failed attempts we decided to take a break and focus on our educations. Heather got her MBA and I finished up my Bachelor of Arts.

After I graduated in the Winter of 2016, we moved to Atlanta, GA to be closer to Heather's mom and step-dad and my mom--and also to just experience life in another place. We fell in love with Atlanta and have decided this is where we want to stay and raise a family. Louisville isn't all that far to go back and visit, and Atlanta is a fun, exciting, diverse city full of opportunity.
In October of 2017, we tried another round of IUI in Atlanta. Heartbreakingly, this was yet another failed round.

We have spent a total of ~$13,200 so far on IUI and have decided to take another approach. IVF. In October of 2018 we decided that IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization) would be a good option for us. Our plan is to use my eggs and Heather is to carry. We figure this is the closest we can get to making a baby that has a little piece of both of us--not to mention my mother was a bit of a fertile myrtle as was my grandma. So we figured my eggs may have a bit of "luck". :) Since October of 2018 we have been loosing weight, saving money, and taking pre-IVF testing and educational courses in preparation. So far we have spent a little over $1,650 on IVF prep.

The total estimated cost for IVF is ~$25,000.

As you can imagine, taking a $13k hit on our savings while trying IUI has set us back a little. It is our goal to raise $10,000 to add to what we have saved up and then finance whatever is left over. We are hoping to begin the transfer process in late May of this year. Your generosity and support would mean the world to Heather and me. We want nothing more than to have a little family of our own. To bring a human being into this world and to teach them how to be a good person, and to show them all the wonder and beauty this world has to offer. We know that this is a large sum of money to request, and we would be so very grateful for any amount we could fundraise. Please help us by donating to our GoFundMe campaign and join us on our journey to becoming Mommies.
