If you know Effie + Jennie, you know what talented, wonderful people they are. They've been around Hudson for the better part of a decade. Maybe you don't know them personally, but you went to Botanica at Half Moon, Effie's monthly all-vinyl dance party... or you witnessed Jennie perform with representative i, Hudson's onetime butoh performance troupe.
They were actually the first people I became friends with when I moved to Hudson in 2014. And recently, I was honored and moved when they asked me to officiate their wedding at the beginning of the lockdown last March. We met in Hudson's empty 7th Street Park with their nephew Christopher as their sole witness.
Later on this summer, Jennie revealed that she was pregnant! They've decided to have a home birth in spring of 2021, in large part because of hospital covid restrictions which will likely still be in place -- only one other person can be in the room with her, which means her mom can't be present. And if Effie has to leave for any reason, he can't come back in.
However, even with these restrictions, their health insurance likely won't pay for a home birth. So they have to pay out of pocket, which is thousands of dollars.
Jennie + Effie never had an official bridal or baby shower OR a wedding party. They do so much for this community, and now is a chance for us to do something nice for them. In lieu of wedding or baby gifts, I've set up this Gofundme page to help them cover the costs of their childbirth. Thanks for considering -- I know it's tough times for many / most of us, but even a couple bucks makes a difference. Both Effie + Jennie are very grateful!
