Jenna and Eric are adopting!

We are very excited to share with our families and friends that we are adopting!  But first, let us catch you up to speed.

We have always wanted to be parents and tried unsuccessfully for years to have a baby.  We began fertility treatments and after a year of appointments, blood draws and injections we were ready for in vitro fertilization.  We felt very optimistic about the process and were devastated after two rounds of IVF were unsuccessful.

After being emotionally, physically and financially depleted from in vitro, we decided we needed some time off to heal and regroup.  We eventually went to an informational meeting around foster care adoption, domestic and international adoptions.  We researched, networked and soul-searched, and came to the decision to move forward with a domestic adoption.

We signed on with an adoption agency in Florida in February and began the lengthy home study process.  Before we even completed the home study we were matched with a birth mother just 3 months after we signed on! (Average wait time to be matched is 1-2 years).

We are ecstatic to announce that we will be bringing home a baby boy at the end of August!  We are blessed to be forever connected with a beautiful, selfless and strong expectant mother who wants her son to have a different life than the one she had.  It was incredibly heartwarming to hear the expectant mother describe that as soon as she saw our picture she knew we were the family that she had been searching for! This is an open adoption so we will continue to have contact with her after the child is born, just more people to love him!

We estimate that this adoption process will cost between $40,000-$45,000.  That figure was incredibly daunting to us, especially after costly fertility treatments.  Those fees go toward: attorney, matching, court costs, birth mother expenses, interstate compact, home study, training classes and travel expenses.  We plan on being in Florida for the birth and will need to stay in Florida with the baby for approximately 2 weeks for the paperwork to be transferred to Colorado.

We did not want to be discouraged by the financial costs, but also knew that we needed help.  It was a difficult decision for us to attempt crowdfunding.  To ask others for money is a humbling and embarrassing experience, and leaves us feeling vulnerable.  If this is something that you are not comfortable with or are not in a place to be able to give,  we completely understand.  We would very much appreciate being in your thoughts and prayers that this adoption moves forward successfully and smoothly.  If you are inclined to give, we are extremely grateful to you and your efforts to help us build our family!

Please feel free to share this with others to help us reach our goal.  Also if you or someone you know is experiencing infertility and would like to talk to someone who has been through it, we are here!  Infertility feels very isolating and shameful, and we want to do what we can to break down the stigma that surrounds it.

This has been a tumultuous six years but we know in the bottom of our hearts that we were meant to be here and meant to bring this child into our family.  We are beyond grateful for our agency, the expectant mother, and to you.  Thank you so much for helping us bring our little boy home!

Much love,

Jenna and Eric
