Jemma's going to Africa

I was recently introduced to an amazing project called Rafiki Mwema. Rafiki Mwema means ‘Loyal Friend’ and is one of the many projects run by Play Kenya.
Rafiki Mwema was born from the need to support very young girls who have been sexually abused. There are sadly too many girls under the age of 12, some as young as 2 years old, who have experienced sexual abuse and at this time there is no specialised care for these very vulnerable children.
Play Kenya have started this therapeutic safe house to help these little girls make sense of the horrors that have happened to them, allow them access to any medical treatment they need, support them through the court system, and where possible to work with their families for a safe return to home. More information can be found if you click here.
Right from the moment I started reading about Play Kenya and Rafiki Mwema I knew I wanted to do something to help. Luckily for me I was just in time to register for Safari Mwema a fundraising opportunity which involves trekking Kilimanjaro. To qualify for this adventure I must raise at least $2000 which 100% of the proceeds will go to Rafiki Mwema.
If I can raise at least $2000 I will be able to take part in a self-funded adventure trekking Kilimanjaro, a 3 day safari, and then a visit to Rafiki Mwema to meet the girls and see where the money raised will be used.
If all goes well with my fundraising efforts I'll be leaving Sydney 30 Dec for a self-funded 8-9 day trek to the summitt of Kilimanjaro starting 2 Jan 2017. Then I'll be going on a safari followed by a visit to Rafiki Mwema where we get an opportunity to see where the much needed funds that we have raised will be used and also gives us a beautiful opportunity to meet the girls and team of staff at Rafiki.
All of my own travel costs, trek and safari will be 100% self-funded.
100% of the funds raised beforehand will go to Rafiki Mwema.
My journey will not stop there….I have decided to stay-on for an additional 2 month voluntary program to spend more time getting to know Play Kenya and Rafiki Mwema and all of the children better.
I am hoping I can rely on my FB friends and family to help me reach and hopefully smash my fundraising target. Please share this page with your peeps.
