Jean's Route 66 Journey.
Jean is 92 and not ready for a life in an armchair. Having ridden pillion on a motorcycle in her youth, she decided to ride again on an epic road trip – on Route 66, aka America's "Mother Road".
Riding as pillion from Chicago to the coast of California with Gary Fleshman, tour guide extraordinaire and Route 66 expert with Orange & Black Worldwide Motorcycle Tours (based in the UK), she’ll ride 2700 miles in 12 days on the back of a Harley-Davidson. She’ll leave Chicago and arrive in Santa Monica traveling through the wide-open spaces of farmland, the Ozarks, and the vast plains of Oklahoma on through Texas cattle country, into New Mexico’s artistic soul, and into Arizona’s desert wonders like the Petrified Forest and Grand Canyon before finally, winding through the Mojave Desert to eventually arrive at the Santa Monica Pier to catch views of the glistening Pacific Ocean.
Jean is also using her journey to raise money in aid of Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, a registered charity, established to provide relief from sickness and injury for the people of Dorset and Somerset. This service is vital to the local community and motorcyclists in particular. With an air and road-delivered critical care capability – they can be at any point in the two counties in less than 20 minutes. More importantly, the helicopter can, if required, then take a patient to the nearest Major Trauma Centre in the South West within a further 20 minutes. Every donation will help to support their efforts.
