Brooklyn, a 14-year-old healthy and active girl, started having back pain for a week and a half. She had seen several doctors, a physical therapist, and a chiropractor, all saying it was "nothing." Early Monday morning, 3/24, Brooklyn started losing feeling in her legs and was unable to go to the bathroom. Her parents rushed her to Blank Children’s Hospital where an MRI was done of her head and spine, and a cyst/infection on her spine was found. They were then ambulanced to Iowa City Tuesday morning at 2 am, and she was rushed back for emergency spinal surgery. The amazing surgeon was able to drain it/flush the infection out by drilling holes in her vertebrae, but Brooklyn has a long road of recovery ahead of her.
Brooklyn still has minimal feeling in her legs, is unable to walk, and is going to be transferred from Iowa City to Johnston for rehabilitation hopefully sometime next week. She is also going to need 6 weeks of IV antibiotics to continue fighting this infection.
Shawn and Cherie both work so hard to provide for their 3 daughters, but right now they don't need to be stressing about money or work. They need to be surrounded by our love and support so they can help Brooklyn recover from this. If anyone would like to donate, you can click the links below to do so. Please keep Brooklyn and all of the Brown family in your prayers as they navigate this difficult journey.
