Javier, Fiona and family ❤️
I have known Javier and Fiona since 1991, we have journeyed together through early adulthood, parenting and the ongoing challenge of living in this crazy world. I felt inspired to create a GoFundMe page to support them at this sensitive time.
On 18th April, after a C.T scan Javier was diagnosed with a tumour on the right side of his brain. On 20th he was admitted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and on 25th underwent brain surgery.
This experience has been transforming for the whole family and though there are many blessings and realisations that come with all life changing experiences it has also been traumatising and very challenging emotionally, mentally and financially for all of them.
Javier is in recovery but still facing many challenges physically and emotionally, he requires many ongoing treatments and dietary and supplementary care. Fiona is exhausted from holding so much and requires time to recover and heal. Javier has not been able to work and will not be able to for the foreseeable future. Fiona has also had to give up her paid work within the community as she has been by Javier's side since April.
Both Gabriel and Ameya have made countless trips to Aberdeen staying in B&B/Hotel accomodation, to support their parents and also many trips to Findhorn, this has incurred substantial travel/accommodation expenses, and they have both needed to take time off work to be with their parents.
The whole family would really benefit from some nurturing and renewing time together and alone.
Javier and Fiona first came to the Findhorn Foundation for their experience week in 1991. They have worked and lived within the Community since that time. Gabriel and Amaya (27 and 25) were born here and spent their childhood enjoying the freedom and benefits that growing up in our community brings. Javier taught them both Flamenco dancing and they regularly entertained us with offerings in the, then weekly, Friday Night Sharings. Gabriel has also sung and played guitar for many events. Amaya was one of the “children” who featured in Maria Craig's film “Growing up Green” which followed the lives of those born and brought up in the community.
Javier worked with the spiritual and personal development team to create education workshops and programmes in personal growth, interpersonal relationship skills and conflict resolution. He then became a leading trauma practitioner in the area, inspired by his spiritual practise he held workshops/retreats, one to one trauma therapy sessions, mentoring and personal support. He also brought groups from Spain for Spanish Experience weeks and was an ambassador of FF throughout Europe. He has a passion for sculpture and donated one of his clay scupltures to Cluny Hill College and it took pride of place outside the Beech Tree room. We will be auctioning this as part of the fundraising campaign as the community has not currently been able to find a place for it.
Fiona worked in the Guest Department and held various roles within the community and more recently she has shared her maternal wisdom to support many families and young ones from birth to school age.
Many of you have been touched by this beautiful family, collectively and individually. The beauty of Community is that when we are stronger we support those who are in need. We would appreciate so much any financial support that you feel you can give at this time.
In September I will also be doing a fundraising show in the Universal Hall that will be streamed online, the profits of which will go to this fundraising campaign. I will keep you informed about this.
When I was talking to a community member they felt inspired to make an anonymous cash donation of £200.00 immediately, thank you for your generosity and for getting the ball rolling.
