My husband and I have been married for six years now. And since then, we have been trying to start a family. In the beginning, I tried vitamins, apps, and ovulation kits. I blamed our unable to conceive due to his deployments and the stress of my job (teacher). We tried conceiving naturally at first, then in the summer of 2022 I started seeing a doctor. First in Salina, then I was recommended to a doctor in Wichita. Afterward, I had multiple appointments, lab work , prescribed medications, sonograms, HSG, failed IUIs, the injections that come with the IUIs, and negative pregnancy tests.

During that time, I had just felt maybe God had a plan and right now wasn’t the time. I am a teacher after all and every single one of my students fills that void in my heart. I have time to see them at their sports events(home games and away games), I can stay afterschool to tutor, and I can even go visit them at their jobs (when they ask). When some students ask me why I don’t have children. I jokingly respond, “ I have you and 99 more!” But year after year I crave to have a child of my own. And I know my husband feels the same as well.

It is hard to share this personal and emotional journey. But despite our unwavering determination, the financial burden has become an obstacle in becoming parents.
