Our sweet Jasper is facing yet another challenge. Jasper is already deaf and spent months being physically and emotionally abused by an unhoused couple. We thought those days were finally behind him. But suddenly, something changed.

After many months in our care, Jasper began showing severe signs of distress. He was extremely anxious, whining and crying, and refusing to let anyone touch him, like even the slightest contact was painful. It was clear that something was very wrong. We were worried that his previously tail injury might be causing him pain. But with no way to know where the pain was coming from and with Jasper becoming increasingly distressed, we had no choice but to rush him to the hospital.

Given the severity of his symptoms and the fact that he could not tolerate being handled, the doctors needed to sedate Jasper so they could thoroughly examine him, take full-body X-rays, and run additional diagnostics to figure out what is wrong.

Being deaf already makes frightening and unfamiliar situations even harder for Jasper. We hate seeing this poor boy in so much distress without being able to explain to him that everyone is only trying to help.
