Jason's Volunteer Teaching In Kenya

Donation protected
About me:
My name is Jason Redmond. I am a teacher from Gorey – and in April 2020, I’m hoping to broaden my horizons as I embark on a journey to Nairobi, Kenya.

What I’m doing:
As part of a small not-for-profit non-government organisation [World Meets Kenya], I will be going to Nairobi for two-weeks and I will be volunteering as an English teacher. I’ll also assist teachers, help develop the school’s curriculum, coach teams, visit disadvantaged areas and overall, help with daily routines in the community.

Even though education is freely available in Kenya, they’re in the middle of an education dilemma; although education is free, there are not enough teachers and they rely on the help of volunteers. Over the next few months, I will be organising several unique fundraising events that I hope – if any way possible – you could support.

Donations:
I am paying for my own flights & vaccinations. For accommodation, I will be staying with a host family along with other volunteers on the programme.

Donations will directly benefit the children; donations will go towards student resources [pens, pencils, paper, books, copies, etc.], and the purchasing of new equipment and materials [toys, footballs, boards, jerseys, chalk, chairs] to name just a few. These are significant barriers that unfortunately impact Kenyan students’ education every day.

No donation is too small! Thank you all so much!
– Jason

About the programme:
The programme I am traveling with is called World Meets Kenya. WMK is a small non-government organisation [NGO] based in Kenya's capital, Nairobi. They rely on the work of local and international volunteers to maintain its smooth running and to ‘bring hope to suffering communities’. The NGO is involved in community projects, teaching in disadvantaged areas, promoting local sports, women empowerment and developing kids’ computer literary skills. Their mission is to address not just the immediate needs of the community – but the long-term needs. This can only be done using the help of volunteers.
