On the morning of January 7, 2026, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a beloved staff member from Jardin Longfellow was taken into ICE custody as they approached the daycare to begin their workday, while families were dropping off their children. What should have been an ordinary morning in a place rooted in safety and care quickly became one filled with fear and uncertainty for the staff member and their family, the daycare staff, families, and their children.
This staff member is here legally and holds a valid work permit through 2030. Despite this, they remain detained while legal counsel works urgently to secure their release and prevent a transfer to an out-of-state facility. State representatives are involved and assisting, but the process remains deeply distressing for the family.
This individual is a trusted caregiver and a deeply valued member of the Jardin Longfellow community. They show up every day to care for children, support families, and provide stability during some of the most important years of a child’s life. Their sudden absence has been felt immediately and profoundly.
While they remain detained, their family is facing overwhelming financial strain. Funds raised will help cover legal fees, rent, utilities, groceries, medical bills, and other essential daily expenses during this incredibly difficult time, both while they are detained and during the period following their release, which we all hope comes soon.
To protect the safety, privacy, and ongoing legal proceedings of the staff member and their family, their name is being kept anonymous at this time. This decision was made thoughtfully and with legal guidance, out of deep respect for their wellbeing during an already traumatic and uncertain process.
No family should have to navigate fear, separation, and financial hardship like this, especially when their loved one was simply showing up to work and care for children in their community.
Any donation, no matter the size, will help provide stability, dignity, and support to this family during a time of profound uncertainty. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page.
Thank you for standing with this family and showing them that our community comes together when one of our own needs help most.
