What is Bastion?
Bastion is a long-term residential program for recent veterans and families with lifelong rehabilitative needs.
Origins of Bastion
Bastion was founded by Dylan Tête, who upon his return from Iraq, volunteered at a summer adventure camp for military youth who lost their fathers in Iraq and Afghanistan. After experiencing a reciprocal and therapeutic impact through service, Dylan understood how community engagement positively correlates with personal wellbeing and social relationships. As the fighting continued overseas, more troops were returning home with devastating wounds like traumatic brain injuries, PTSD, and multiple amputations. Rehabilitation is lifelong and in many cases, the effects of injuries may worsen over time. The concept for Bastion was born out of creating community as a positive intervention for living and re-integration; utilizing the Generations of Hope Community Model as a basis. A 5.5-acre site in Gentilly in New Orleans is slated for the building of the first community.

This is where we need your help! Jane Rohde, principal of JSR Associates, Inc. (design lead for the Bastion project), is planning her next adventure "Jane's Ride for Bastion." She will ride her Harley motorcycle from Baltimore to Michigan to raise money for Bastion: A Community of Hope for Veterans. Jane's adventure begins in Baltimore on July 12th, 2014 and she plans to arrive in West Olive, Michigan July 17th, 2014. All of the money raised will go to building long-term residential homes and community areas for recent veterans and families with lifelong rehabilitative needs. Please consider donating (any amount is greatly appreciated!) to help those courageous individuals who were wounded after they put their life at risk while fighting for our freedom.
