On the 20th of September, I will be hosting a coffee morning in aid of Irish sepsis Foundation in order to raise much needed awareness and funds for this very worthy cause.

Earlier this year, my mother, Sandra took seriously ill with sepsis but, has since made an amazing recovery.

At the time we knew nothing about the illness or how she could have got it. Since then, the Irish sepsis foundation has been incredibly helpful providing us with information on post sepsis care and being there for mummy in her recovery.

The Irish sepsis Foundation is made up of a group of volunteers, mostly sepsis survivors or people who have experienced it to some capacity and they work tirelessly to raise awareness about the illness.

I am hosting this fundraiser to thank the foundation for the work they do but to also make everyone aware of the signs to look out for. We are incredibly lucky that mummy made a full recovery and are aware of this everyday.

Sepsis is a life-threatening medical emergency that happens when your body overreacts to an infection and begins to damage its own tissues and organs.

It can start from something as simple as a cut, a chest infection, or a urinary tract infection.

Without early recognition and treatment, sepsis can lead to:
Organ failure
Septic shock
Death

Know the Signs of Sepsis:
Use the acronym SEPSIS:

S – Slurred speech or confusion
E – Extreme shivering or muscle pain
P – Passing no urine in a day
S – Severe breathlessness
I – “I feel like I’m going to die”
S – Skin mottled, discoloured or very pale

Sepsis is treatable if it is caught early.

Thank you for supporting this fundraiser ❤️
