Grow the Jane Lew Community Garden
Donation protected
What started out as an idea at one of our Lewis County First meeting last year is now a reality. We are putting in a community garden at the Jane Lew Park and it is open to all local residents at no cost to them.
But we want your help, we want you to become involved and help support this garden with a donation. If we have to we will get grants and seek corporate funding, but we really hope to see our community pull together and support this garden.
Why a community garden? Community gardens improve people's quality of life by providing a start for neighborhood development, getting people to work together, getting to know one and another, encourage self-reliance, beautifying neighborhoods, producing nutritious food and helping family's food budget. They are also a great opportunity for recreation, exercise, therapy, and education.
The gardens are going to be free, so those in need will be able to take advantage of this opportunity. We will have instructors to help those who have not garden before.
The garden will be located at the end of the New Pony Baseball Field, between the fence and walking trail. Our first area to be developed will be 40 feet by 90 feet. We will have room for 20 4'x12' and 10 4'x8' raised garden plots. We also hope to have communal tools, storage shed, compost bin, work tables, benches and a fence to protect the area. Also, we would like to beautify the area with flowers and a butterfly garden. All funds donated will go toward the garden and a full accounting of the income and expenses will be available to all.
We are looking for any size donation and have various levels of "Thank You", but more important we want to see the support and commitment from our local Lewis Countians. Thank You
