Equip and Inspire Kenya with Jan and Peter

It gives us great joy that you are sharing our wedding celebrations with us. As you know, we have been very blessed to have many home comforts and therefore, do not have a traditional wedding list. We do not need another toaster!

Some of you, may feel you would like to gift us something, so we have decided to give you the opportunity, without any expectation or obligation, to support the work of our friend Alice in Kenya.

Peter visited Kenya to oversee a support programme in 2018 and although Jan has yet to go, she did host Alice for nearly 3 years while Alice studied for her PhD in Child and Youth Studies. During her stay in Jan’s home, their friendship grew. They both had similar difficult childhood experiences, and out of those difficulties, have both chosen to give their help to children, especially those children with disadvantage and/or disability. Peter, with a brother with Down’s Syndrome, enabled and enables many disabled people to be living their best lives. Alice and Peter have a common interest in the work of L'Arche - Peter as a volunteer with their community in Bognor Regis and Alice as a board member of L'Arche Kenya.

When Alice came to England to study, a Kenyan child, said “don’t forget us”. Alice returned to Kenya, with her PhD! This gives her the opportunity to voice for the children. We continue to pray that the right people listen to both Alice’s expertise and heartfelt passion to make life changing differences, Alice has not forgotten the children.

Alice initially worked as a special educational needs coordinator with marginalised children with disabilities. Over the years, Alice has consistently created awareness of the inequalities that most children with disabilities in Kenya face daily.

On a day to day basis, Alice and her team help where they can, helping children and families with: practical support, food, medication, school/college access, job initiatives, physiotherapy and training, with love and care, giving hope for a better future.

All gifts will go directly to help Kenyan disabled and disadvantaged children/families, as we work with Alice to manage the fund.
