James's Six Week Sleep Out !!

8 year old James is a lover of all things outdoors. Despite his fear of the dark, James wanted to challenge himself in the school holidays to do something for those less fortunate, and after Daddy ran the Cambridge half marathon, and volunteered in the Wintercomfort kitchens to serve breakfast to those living on the streets, James wanted to contribute.

What initially started as a '1 night trial sleep out' quickly became a week.

James has now been 'sleeping out' for 15 nights (As of Sun 4th August) All without the use of torches and technology (just a colouring book and his 999 page Lord of the Rings book until darkness takes over.)

James is facing some fears of his own and we are extremely proud of his commitment. He has had one night in the house due to the parents insisting, as on night 13 James developed a fever. Despite feeling unwell with what now appears to be tonsillitis, he is back outside truly 'roughing it'! In James's words "The homeless don't get to choose".

For more than 30 years, Wintercomfort have been at the forefront of support for homeless people in Cambridge.

Open 365 days of the year, Wintercomfort provide hot meals, showers, laundry facilities, clothing and healthcare for rough sleepers alongside a wide range of services such as counselling, housing advice, employment support, digital inclusion, fitness and wellbeing activities to help people turn their lives around. Things most of us take for granted, and yet we are only ever one decision away from homelessness ourselves.

We are beyond proud of James's awareness of those less fortunate and would love for Friends, Family, Colleagues and Strangers to get behind him and support this incredible cause.
