The Penta Rod Campaign for NAACP Foundation

Tax deductible
Hi everyone, I'm James Hudson.

As some of you know, I'm currently working in New York City and living in Brooklyn. An area that has been particularly rocked by Covid-19 but more recently protests (both peaceful and violent) against the systemic racism that is ever-present throughout the United States. In joining the march from the Brooklyn Barclays Center across the Manhattan Bridge on Sunday Night May 31, I felt empowered to do something more. In talking with my best mates back in the UK and telling them about my experience, they too felt compelled to help.

With that in mind, we will be completing 1250 kilometers (roughly 775 miles) as a team through the month of June to help raise funds for the NAACP Foundation.
Follow @penta_rods for competitive content on how not to run 1250kms in a month.

The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.

Throughout the 20th Century the NAACP were extremely successful with other civil rights organizations in abolishing legalized racial segregation in the Southern States and bringing the nation together. Such achievements include winning the right of Afro-Americans to serve as military officers in the US Armed Forces, influencing many US cities to refuse showing the vulgar ‘Birth of A Nation’ film which glamorized the Ku Klux Klan and their actions, as well as officially desegregating every social, political, educational and economic institution in the South. Legendary figures such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. have also been directly involved or influenced by the actions of the NAACP. Yet today, its role in American society is evermore important as ‘de facto’ institutionalized segregation and racism has persisted and even grown in many areas of the USA well into the present day.
