Hi my name is Therese. I’m a single mom of two beautiful sons. Jalen and Joshua. I’m in recovery, work full time as a clinical coordinator in the mental health field and do the best I can on a daily basis to provide for my children. My youngest has been on a downward spiral with his mental health over the past 4 years, more so after me and his father split, leading him into psychiatric hospitals back to back and getting lost in the cycle of treatment. I have been fighting and advocating for placement with the school district for therapeutic boarding school for over a year because it got to a point where he was isolating in his room, attempting suicide and struggling with his depression to the point where he was unable to attend school. We won against the district!!! And therapeutic boarding school was approved. This has been a tough journey for all of us, including his older brother as he has had to stand on the side lines witnessing it all. Although he has had brief moments of progress such as helping the community neighbors clean their trash bins to earn money to buy a bike that was stolen from him by a group of kids that bullied him, I know in my heart this is the right decision to set him up for a life of success. The barrier I'm faced with is he is being sent all the way across the country to Georgia for the next 1- 2 years. He was accepted and will be leaving within the next 3 weeks. I want to be as involved and as close as possible which means being present for family sessions/visitation which means I would have to fly back and fourth (flights are insanely expensive ) and to also care for my 16 yr old who will be staying home with grandma while I’m gone all while still maintaining my full time job in CA. I have had to take family leave in continuous and intermittent of 7 months within the past year to be with him to watch him as he can’t be left unsupervised. This isn’t something I would normally do however it was suggested that I ask for help during such a difficult time for my family. Anything helps, seriously anything helps even if it’s $1, $5 or $10. It would be covering flights to/from Georgia, hotel stays, rental cars as well as any necessities for his packing list etc...I would be humbled by the generosity and would be forever indebted & thankful for the support and I promise to pay it forward ♥️
