Jake's Eagle Scout Service Project
Donation protected
I am a current Life Scout on my way to Eagle Scout. I will be completing my Eagle Scout Service Project by creating a Historical Walk in Johnston, Iowa. The project will include landscaping and historical markers of people and events that have had a significant impact on my community. My goal of $6,500 is aggressive because I want to create a professional and meaningful site with high quality signs and beautiful landscaping to enhance the historical area of my city.
I am doing this project to demonstrate the leadership skills I have learned through the Boy Scouts of America, to enrich and educate my community, and to fulfill my lifelong goal of becoming an Eagle Scout. The Historical Walk will be located on a path that connects the Johnston Historical Society and the historic Simpson Barn.
I plan on highlighting the Sac and Fox Native Americans, the earliest pioneers and business owners in Johnston such as the Hunts, the Lawsons, and the Ottos, WWI Veteran Merle Hay, scientist, agronomist, and statesman Henry A. Wallace, and local teacher Bernice Scott. I also plan to highlight the Camp Dodge, an important military training base in our community.
