Jake Lang's Persian Gulf Memorial Eagle Project
Donation protected
My name is Jake Lang. I am a 17-year-old Senior attending Windsor Locks High School. I am a lifelong resident of Windsor Locks and I have belonged to Boy Scout Troop 263 for five years. I am currently working on my Eagle Scout project.
My project is the refurbishing of benches that are located at the intersection of Elm Street and Mulberry Street. The benches were originally donated by the Girl Scouts Of America many years ago dedicated to all the members of the Armed Forces during the Gulf War. The 30th Anniversary of the Gulf War is January 17, 2021. It's my goal to have the project done before this date so that I may hold a ceremony on the anniversary. I want to create a gardening commemoration of those who served in the Persian Gulf War in the area as well.
I will make the following upgrades:
1. I want to fix the currently broken benches. I will have the benches welded and powder coated blue to improve the original look. I will replace the broken wood stain it red and white to make the benches look similar to an American flag.
2. add five arborvitaes behind the benches to remember each of the Armed Forces.
3. Install (five) 7-foot tall granite pillars to commemorate with each of the Armed Forces pillars having a plaque it.
4. Place landscape edging and fill with mulch.
5. Obtain a large memorial stone with a bronze plaque that is dedicated to those who served, it will recognize them by having the plaque engraved with a sentence to honor the veterans.
6. install a nameplate for each veteran who served from my town of Windsor Locks and attach the plates to the benches.
I'm soliciting donations so I can realize my dream eagle project. The donations will help obtain the granite pillars, nameplates, and plaque which will all add to the overall significance of this project, and the importance it holds in honoring the town's veterans.
