Kayla was my roommate for some time. If you know anything about Kayla, you know her love for her family and especially for her siblings. Jaelyn is Kayla's little sister and has been in her care for 12 months consecutively. Prior to that, Kayla cared for Jaelyn her senior year of college. She gave up so many things she loved; her sorority, her time with friends, and her college experience. None of these things ever compared to the joy she had in knowing her sister was safe, loved, and stable. Her mom took Jaelyn in April of 2017 and never put her back in kindergarten. Jaelyn returned to live with Kayla in July of 2017 a few short months after her mother was not able to care for Jaelyn, and Kayla has had her since. Her mother's endless records of drug abuse, neglect, and abandonment are trying to claim their family again. Their mom got out of jail last week and has already threatened to remove Jaelyn from her stable living environment and place her back on the streets with her mother. Kayla has visited with a lawyer but does not have the financial means (single parent on a first-year teacher's salary) on her own to pay for the lawyer fees, filing fees, and court fees. Please help keep this family together and keep Jaelyn in a safe, stable, and loving environment. Any small donation will help tremendously and is greatly appreciated.
