Hi!

This is Jaelle Tieche.

I am a junior at The King's Academy, a Christian school in the Bay Area.

One thing that's cool about our school is that this April *every* student in our entire high school will be going on a week-long service trip.

There are about a dozen different opportunities for students to choose from - from local food banks to international trips. The goal of these trips is to teach us to serve people, especially people in need, just like Jesus did.

Now, if you know me, then you know I love three things.

• I love dance.

• I love Starbucks.

• And I love kids.

I volunteer to work with the 2-year-olds on Sunday mornings at my church.
And I babysit quite a lot for families we know. And I love kids. I don’t get tired of them, I love helping them, I don’t lose my patience.
I just love little kids.

As I looked at the list of service projects this year, one jumped out to me.

I felt my heart drawn to working with kids in the Philippines.

EXPLANATION OF THE TRIP

A group of about 35-40 of us, led by one of our teachers who is from this region, will go to the city of Dagupan where we will be partnering with the international organization YWAM. YWAM has a Ministry Center located there. We’ll see how they serve the families in this region and we will help pass out food and clothes, but also run a VBS for kids.

Then, we’ll go a little further to the city of Binmaley, which is the hometown of the teacher who is leading this trip. We’ll do similar things there, working with families in an area that’s more remote.

This is NOT an easy trip. First of all, it's the longest trip (10 days long). It's also the furthest away (more than 7,000 miles). And it's hot, the conditions will be uncomfortable, and we'll be doing a lot of work.

But I’m not worried about that. I want to serve, and especially if we’re actually helping kids, I feel like I can do it.

THE ASK:

So here’s where I need your help.

I need to raise $3,200.

The trip is the most expensive trip out of all the ones at TKA. This is partially due to travel costs, but it's also because we'll be raising money to support the people we'll be serving.
