Early on Tuesday May 26, 2020 Jacobi Lomax was tragically and unexpectedly taken from us. Jacobi was a friend, a daughter, a sister, a cousin, an auntie, a niece, but most importantly, she was a mom. She will be deeply missed by her two girls, 12-year-old Janiya and 18-year-old Jada.
Jada spoke out in her grief and wrote, “My mama was a go getter....She went through so much when she was young and refused to take me and my sister through it. She liked to travel, has even been to two countries. She loved her some biker shorts and some new wigs. She got us whatever we wanted, even if she had to work extra hours because we were too expensive. My mama liked to joan and be corny. She was so proud of me. All I keep hearing in my head is, ‘You did it daughter.’ All she wanted was the best for us...” Jada was recently promoted to manager at her part-time job and graduated from high school with honors. She still plans to attend nursing school in the fall. In the days that have followed her mother’s death, each choice that she makes focuses upon making her mother proud.

In Janiya’s words, “Wow, it’s so crazy how you were just here and now you’re gone. I’ve never cried so much over anything in my life. Thank you so much for teaching me basically everything I know. Thank you for always being there for me and being my best friend. Thanks for having my back no matter what, even if I was wrong. Thank you for always making me laugh when I was upset...Thank you for always believing in me and trusting my process. Thank you for being you. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I’ve never been so grateful for someone in my life. You are my angel now.” Janiya just wishes that she had the chance to say “I love you” one more time before her mom was taken from this earth.

As you can imagine, immense struggles lie ahead for these two daughters of a single mom. Jada and Janiya will get through it because they are strong, because Jacobi taught them to be strong. Their mother’s spirit is within them, and they will persevere through the worst circumstances. Furthermore, they are surrounded by many loving family and friends who will support them in any way that they can.
However, as you know, it takes a village to raise a child. With our donations we can be a part of that village. All of the raised funds are being placed in a savings account overseen by Ashley Lomax (sister of Jacobi and guardian of Janiya). The terms of the account are such that only Janiya and Jada can access these savings. Please consider contributing to this fund. If you are unable to financially commit at this time, Janiya and Jada (and the rest of their family and friends) treasure your prayers.
