Jake's Social Work Trip
Donation protected
Thank you for taking a moment to check out my page! My name is Jake Sobel and I am a full-time student at the University of Georgia in the Masters of Social Work Program. This summer I will be volunteering with Education Plus to begin the social work component for their organization. Education Plus is a grassroots organizations that provides food, education, material assistance and love to the children of Pantanal, Nicaragua, who are among the poorest in the world.
Since the Social Work component for Education Plus would be brand new to their overall program I will be able to design and implement my own program.
I plan on having a simple, yet comprehensive program tailored to the local culture with a file for each student that would include: Basic Information Forms, Assessment Forms, Treatment Plans, Progress Notes Forms, Medical and Dental Records, and Incident Report Forms. I would also like to compile a “Referral Guide” that lists outside Resources that Education Plus students and their families can access.
I plan on counseling students in crisis or that have behavioral or social problems. For students with family issues, I plan on doing Home Visits to assess, assist, and counsel the families through their immediate situations. In addition, my input would be very useful to Education Plus Teachers and Administrative Staff when dealing with behavioral, medical or other individual issues that a particular student may have.
Along with this amazing experience comes some large fees. I am asking for donations of any size from family and friends. $5 will help go a long way! All contributions will go directly to the cost for my flights, housing/utilities and food for the three months I will be volunteering in Nicaragua.
Anything I raise in excess of my goal will go to Education Plus as a donation!
I am extremely excited about this opportunity! If you have any questions or would like more details about my trip, I would love to talk to you!
