Jacob’s Elevator

Jacob’s mother Lindsay is a dear friend and colleague of mine. Our ICU Family has seen Lindsay dedicate her heart and soul to the patients she has cared for over the past 20 years. She truly is an Angel! Not only is she an amazing caregiver at work, she goes home and is a loving Mother and Wife. Her oldest child Jacob is severely developmentally and physically disabled and we would like to rally behind their family and help them raise money to pay for the elevator they are installing in their home.

Lindsay and Seth have 3 kids, Thea (11 Yrs), Ava (14 yrs), and Jacob. Jacob is 16 years old, but developmentally like a baby in many ways. The primary genetic disorder he has is called NACC1, which is a very rare mutation with only about 40 known kids diagnosed around the world. Jacob is wheelchair bound, cannot walk or eat normally, has a G tube, does not talk, but he does verbalize sounds. Despite this, he is very expressive and lets them know in his own ways how he's feeling and what he wants through non-verbal communication. You can read more about his journey on caringbridge at: caringbridge.org/visit/Jacobmastous

As Jacob has grown, it has become increasingly difficult to move him throughout their home as he is now 80 pounds. Their main family room is in the basement and due to his size, it is has become unsafe for both Jacob and his family to bring him downstairs, which has limited his ability to be apart of family time. Also, in times of severe weather, they need a way to get Jacob to a safe part of the home. They looked into a stair lift, but unfortunately because Jacob is unable to hold up his body weight and head to support himself, this is not a safe or viable option. Having the elevator would mean the world to them to know he has a safe place in their home that provides him with the space to be comfortable, to have fun, to have a place to do his therapies, an ability to get out to the back yard, a place to always be with his family who love him most and to promote his overall well-being.
