Jacob&Malorie's Adoption Adventure

It's real.

We are adopting.

This January, we will be welcoming a newborn baby into our home and our lives.

The craziest part is that we've only known about this baby for about a month.

One evening at the beginning of November, a couple from our church who knew we were working through the adoption process stopped by our house.  They brought another lady they knew, and proceeded to tell us that we should sit down. It's extremely nerve-wracking to be told to sit down in your own home.

This lady told us about a girl that she knows.  This girl, due to an array of circumstances, found herself pregnant and unable to keep the baby. She was offering us the chance to meet her and consider adopting her child. She gave me a sheet of paper with a name and phone number, and offered to help as much as she could along the way.

I cried pretty much the rest of the time they were there.  Jacob held it together until they left.

I immediately started thinking of names, nursery décor, adorable outfits... Jacob immediately started doing research and reworking our budget.

That weekend I met the birth mom.  Jacob was out of town for a conference, so I went alone.  We talked rather awkwardly for a half hour. I showed her pictures of Jacob and the dogs. She told me about her situation, some other details of her life, and showed me an ultrasound picture.

The next week, after Jacob came home, we both went to see her.  We also met her mom.  After that meeting we got in touch with a lawyer and she did the same. We are pursuing an open adoption for a baby that is due to be born on January 27, 2019. Talk about a time crunch!

As I write this, Jacob is sitting at the table working on more homestudy paperwork. There's seriously so much paperwork. We're slowly gathering baby items, looking at name possibilities, and doing some small updates around our house.

If you're following our adoption adventure, as so many are, we have 2 requests for you.

First, please pray.  Pray for us, the birth mom, and the baby.  Pray that our homestudy process goes smoothly and quickly, and pray that the legal process goes smoothly and as quickly as it can.

Second, if you feel so inclined, we would appreciate any financial support you may be able to offer.  Because our timeline is short, we have a lot of big expenses coming up fast. These expenses include:

Our lawyer fees
Our birth mom's lawyer fees
Medical bills that aren't covered by our birth mom's insurance

The homestudy and background checks
Small updates around the house
Various baby items
A lady we know told us that her son and daughter-in-law went through the same independent adoption process, and that their costs totaled close to $12,000. We are hoping to raise $10,000.  We plan to do as many fundraisers as we can squeeze in around the holiday season.  We also have a GoFundMe page set up so that if you live far away and want to help out, you're able to.

We are so grateful for the love and support we've received since we announced we wanted to adopt, and we are so grateful that you're all on this journey with us.
