Jacob Morrison’s Eagle Project
Donation protected
This is a fundraiser to benefit Tower Heights Middle School's Science Department via my son, Jake's ScoutsBSA Eagle Service Project...from here on out you are hearing from Jake, not Dad.
The end result of the project will be including eco-friendly gardening as part of the regular Science curriculum at Tower Heights Middle School. With your support, my project will do the following:
* Expand the current science departments 2 existing garden plots to 4 plots by building 2 new plots with cedar wood.
* Repair existing plots as-needed
* Clean up/out existing garden beds for first use
* Clean-up existing composting bins and surrounding area
* Utilize existing composted soil as first fill to garden beds
* Incorporate bird netting to all four plots
* Provide gardening tools for all four plots including watering cans
* Provide weather-proof, securable storage for tools and related materials
* Provide two rain barrels for water collection as supply for garden plots
* Repair and paint the existing storage shed on location (used jointly by Science department and school groundskeeping)
* Install gutter system for water collection/supply to rain barrels and proper drainage away from area
* Build rain barrel stands for proper support and ease of use of rain barrels
* Develop gravel bed for placement of rain barrels (easy maintenance of area, manage overfill/spill from rain barrels)
* Supply funds to Science department for seed/seedling purchase and curriculum launch
* Document site and system maintenance for project handover (cleaning, storage of barrels during winter seasons, gutter inspection and maintenance,
etc.)
Our goal is to have the project completed by October 31, 2020 to support the Science department goal of launching for 2nd Quarter classes as students are planned to return to in-person schooling.
The project is important to me because I love science and my love of science started in Middle School with Mrs. Fritz's Science class. Your support will help me give back to my school, the teachers that have put me on such a great path, and enhance the student experience in an already great program. It's also important to me because a Scout is conservation-minded and the principles of leave no trace don’t just mean to do no harm, but means to leave it better than you found it!
Your support will also help me achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. I will be the first of a long line of Scouts in my family to achieve this honor - one that I will carry with me and "live as an Eagle" for my entire life.
I thank you in advance for considering to support me in my project and the students and staff of Tower Heights Middle school. It is not easy to put in words how thankful I am for your consideration and your support!
