The Jackson's Community Garden in Oak Cliff
Donation protected
Describe who will benefit:
Carlos and Dana Jackson are an amazing couple who have always put family and community first. Despite falling on hard times, both Carlos and Dana have transformed their home into a community garden where anyone is allow to take fruit and vegetables, pick herbs and visit anytime to learn. Carlos got up and put on a suit every day of his life until his diabetes became too much and he had to close down his car service business. Despite losing his eye sight temporarily, a toe and part of his heel to his illness, he continues to garden and support his community. Carlos is extremely knowledgeable in modern farming practices and believes community gardens can help those living in food deserts. He also believes in the healing power of food and sharing his knowledge, skills and time with the community. While Carlos is in the garden, Dana is always cooking for family, friends, neighbors, and vets walking the streets as they live down the street from the VA. Their dream is to continue to build their community garden and create a safe space to serve everyone they meet.

In order to be ready to receive the volunteers and plants we have to have 3 greenhouse planter boxes built before November 16. We will have a volunteer opportunity available this March, 7th from 1:30pm- 4pm. Please send me an email if you are interested in volunteering. p[email redacted]
What the support will mean:
Support from the community in the form of service, in-kind donations or donated funds would mean the world to both Carlos and Dana. This is a second chance for Carlos and Dana to live out a lifelong dream to serve the community. Please click the link below to read about their previous experience.
