About me
My name is Jackson Dooley. I've been in Boy Scouts since 5th grade (2018), and prior to that, I was in Cub Scouts, which I started in 2nd grade (2015). Additionally, I've been playing baseball for as long as I can remember. I've always loved both things, and I plan to combine them with my project.
My Project
I'm building four baseball bullpens at Hawks View Elementary School. These bullpens will all have permanent plates next to the dugout, a portable mound that can be taken in and out for the in-season and off-season, and fencing surrounding each bullpen with a gate.
The areas where my bullpens are going to be are areas where many fans choose to sit. However, many teams ask their fans to move so their pitchers can warm up there. I think making these areas official bullpens will be very beneficial for all of the Sherwood youth baseball teams
Fundraising
For my project, I need to raise around $1,600 for all the building materials, such as wood, turf, concrete, etc. Additionally, I have an estimated fencing cost of around $5,400, which I also need to raise. These costs together equal $7,000.
Since the cost of the fencing is so high, I have made a plan for a compromise if I can't afford the full fencing that I'd like. If I raise the amount I need, I will make full fencing surrounding the bullpen area; this protects fans and passersby from wild pitches in the bullpen and protects the catcher and pitcher inside the bullpen. If I can't afford the full fencing, I will only extend the existing fencing to the required distance; that way, pitchers and catchers are protected from the field.
Conclusion
I always played on these fields when I was in JBO, and as a pitcher myself, I'd love to see bullpens at the old fields where I played.
