Jackson Condo Legal Fund

Have you ever been stuck in a situation where the people in power just won't listen to reason, no matter how many times you ask? That's what's been happening here at The Jackson, a condominium in downtown Orlando, FL. Our board of directors have been abusing their power and "rigging the system", to benefit themselves at the expense of the residents.

They skipped elections for almost four years, purchased additional units until they had enough voting power to ensure they can never be voted out, and passed a "Right of First Refusal" that allows them to block the sale of any unit in the building. They've also hiked up the monthly fees for us, some of us are now paying over $1,800 per month (on top of our mortgage) for a condo that offers little in the way of amenities. They are also threatening to hike up our monthly fees, again.

As if that wasn't enough, they've also been operating illegal short-term rentals that violate city ordinances, and the transient renters that arrive for said rentals have constantly disturbed residents with loud noises, parties, trash, etc. They've even mismanaged association funds by investing in Bitcoin (and subsequently taking significant losses), awarding contracts to board-member-owned businesses, and more.

But we're not giving up without a fight. We're preparing to file a civil lawsuit to challenge the board's mismanagement and abuse of power. The problem is, we can't afford this lawsuit on our own. Our board members have way more money and power than we do... Not to mention the high monthly fees imposed upon us have made it difficult for us to finance this on our own. That's why we're turning to you for help.

Every single dollar you donate will go towards our attorney fees. And if there's any money left over, we're going to pay it forward. We'll donate any extra funds to neighboring buildings or associations that may be in a similar situation, or if none exist, we'll donate it to charity. We have absolutely no intention of keeping any leftover funds for ourselves - we simply want to reclaim our community and return to a sense of normalcy.
