Monday 6/21 I went in for a planned induction to bring our son into the world due to some medical issues in my pregnancy. I labored for 16 hours and no progress in dilation, but his head was trying to continually come out with intense back labor. His heart rate kept sky rocketing and then plummeting,
despite trying different maneuvers and positions to help. My doctor made the decision of emergency c-section because my placenta was not supporting him and he wasn’t getting oxygen.
6/22/21 at 5:08 am Jack Ares Love was born into this world at 8 lbs 12 oz, 22 inches long. He came out and was not breathing for several minutes and required immediate assistance for breathing. After assistance, he was having irregular breathing and unable to sustain himself due to a fluid build up in his lungs. He was taken to be on CPAP & after a few hours was still not improving. We had to send Jack to Sparrow NICU for continued care. Aidan was able to go with him & due to just having a c-section I had to stay behind to recover. (Probably the worst feeling of my life was being separated from him for so long).
Jack continued to improve and after a day in the NICU, was taken off of CPAP & fluids for feedings were lowered continuously through the day into Wednesday - absolutely great news.
I worked my butt off to prove I could be discharged to be with him. Around noon I was able to leave & be reunited with Jack! Hooray! We spent some much needed snuggle time & by the end of the night we were able to try breast feeding for the first time! He got a great latch & did very very well his first feeding from mom.
Today (6/24) was a bit different when we tried to feed, he would latch but no sucking. Due to his labs being a bit off, he was really tired & unable to suck or nipple feed from a bottle of donor breast milk. We decided to place a feeding tube to give him a rest & allow him to eat. We are currently trying to rest & let Jack rest as well so we can continue trying to feed to get my supply in & allow him to learn to eat!
If everything progresses and we perfect his feedings, we will be able to go home!
We are staying at the Ronald McDonald house & the expenses of food, extra needs, parking passes, and medical bills are going to add up. We appreciate any donation, good thoughts, prayers, and/or love sent our way!
At this time, we are just asking for space to take care of Jack & will update people as soon as we can.
