Hello my name is Jack, a big thank you to you, for taking the time to visit my fund-raising page.
I have been given the most amazing opportunity to take part in a Camps International Trip to Borneo in July 2027 through my school.
This expedition is for 4 weeks and is a once in a life time opportunity, where I will be helping local people in their community, and I will be involved in long term conservation efforts to help to protect the endangered orangutan, whilst supporting the preservation of the rainforest.
Camps International is a global social enterprise, which makes a significant difference to the world around us. They organise sustainable and ethical expeditions, which provide students like myself, with new skills and cultural experiences.
A large part of the expedition will be focused around helping to protect the environment through long-term conservation projects and living and working in rural villages, working alongside local people to support community development. This could be helping to build classrooms, to refurbishing community buildings, installing water storage systems or even brick laying, painting or plastering.
Another part of the Expedition is Project work, which will include working on reforesting the area by growing and replanting native trees.
I will be going to volunteer and work with the local communities, to make a positive lasting impact.
A bit about me…
Anyone who knows me, knows that I struggle greatly with change and doing things outside my normal routine and outside my comfort zone. I can be a bit of an introvert, and although some may see me as antisocial, I’m really not, I just sometimes find things a bit over whelming.
I’m a bit different that’s all (we can’t all be the same), but I was blessed with the superpower of ASD. For me this means I get really stressed with change and lack of routine, trying new things, including different foods (I don’t like certain textures).
However, from a very young age I have loved anything to do with animals and looking after our planet (I want to be either a vet, zoo keeper or marine biologist). My mum says as soon as I could talk, I would talk non stop about animals, and I would sit for hours reading books about animal facts and their habitats……. so this is one of the many reasons why I am going to throw myself into this very different and extremely challenging opportunity to take part in the Expedition to Borneo.
I know I will find this really difficult, but I know that once I have overcome my challenges, that I can make a real difference to the local communities and the conservation work, which is something I care deeply about.
Part of this challenge is to raise funds, I will be doing different fundraising activities over the next 12 months, but I would be very grateful and appreciative if you could donate anything big or small to support my journey.
Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot.
Jack
