Bats are very important to the Fort Knox community because some plants depend partly or wholly on bats to pollinate their flowers or spread seeds, while other bats counteract insects by eating them. However, in recent days bats have been dying due to the white-nose syndrome and deforestation. So, my Eagle Scout project is to construct and erect assorted styles of bat houses on Fort Knox, KY. There will be a total of 20 bat houses constructed with two variations. The requirements generated by this need are 10, four chambered bat houses and 10 rocket style bat houses. The estimated total price of the project is $2,500, about $100 per house and additional cost related to incidentals required to paint, prepare, and place each house.
This project will not only benefit me, but also the soldiers on Fort Knox and the Scouts in my troop. My family is Military and has seen how the environment can change the lives of the people living there. I want to help make the environment on Knox better for everyone, so I wanted to focus my Eagle Scout project on the people that live there.
