IVF Journey for Kacey and Patrick

Our Tot Spot Family needs the help of our friends and family!!!

Our Pre-K teacher Miss Kacey has a story we would like to share with all of you.

"In 2015, I was a healthy normal teenager starting my senior year of high school. I NEVER thought cancer would affect me. When I noticed I was covered in bruises and was really pale and tired, I kept thinking I was coming down with a cold or something. Everything changed the day I collapsed onto my friend Tyler at school. I still didn’t even think I was that sick until the words “you have cancer” came out of the doctors mouth.
I have had my ups and downs throughout the past three years. I spent 120 days in a row in a hospital room. Ive had to relearn how to eat, walk, go to the bathroom, sit up...all of the basic things you learn as a kid all over again. Ive had to overcome major depression related to all of these things.
Ive watched this awful disease take two of the most amazing and beautiful people Ive ever met. My two closest friend I had to go through treatment with. The people that understood how I was feeling.
Ive met the most wonderful people who I will forever be thankful to who were by my side through this whole journey.
Now that I’m off chemo and in remission, I thought that my life would just click back into normal. But it hasn’t. Every time I have to go to my monthly checkup my anxiety and fear of this nasty disease coming back peaks at an all time high.
I try to be positive and enjoy every single day. I am so thankful to be healthy and for the life that I have and all of the amazing people around me. Ive learned how important it is to count your blessings every day because you never know when everything can change.
After all of this a few years later i met my husband Patrick Dunbar, we married August 2020 and have been trying for a baby since. After going through two rounds of IVF and egg retrieval we recieved news that no person ever wants to hear. Patrick and I have a different route we will be needed to make our little family grow. My egg quality is just too far damaged from chemo to properly form an embryo.
When I was first diagnosed with cancer I was only 17. At the time I was only focusing on surviving , not preserving my eggs and boy I’m upset at myself right now for not doing it.
These next steps are going to take some time to set in. The thought of my baby not being my DNA is very hard for me to accept. But I know that some day Patrick and I will be damn good parents and I just can’t wait for that day to come. After going through the financial aspects of all of this the amount of money we will have to come up with is absolutely crazy, $25,000. Thank you to everyone who has always supported my crazy journey. It is greatly appreciated." -KACEY DUNBAR
