I’ve had a spotless decades long record of community service, public service and private services and spearheaded change initiatives that are still strengthening our community years later.
But Since I began my campaign for the first Black woman to be elected Mayor of Madison, I’ve been the subject of several unjustified disciplinary actions, including as much as 10 days of unpaid suspension.
As a single Black mother, I just can’t afford to miss 10 days of pay, and in the aftermath of a lost campaign run, I’m embarrassed to say that I’m worried about providing for my children and keeping this roof over their heads.
I’m hoping that my community, the same community that cheered me on during my campaign, will come to the rescue and help me cover the bills for this month.
What my employer is doing is wrong, and the actions that I take to protect myself have been used for retaliation. While the investigation takes place, I’m going to need to make sure we’re good, and I’m praying that you all will help us do that.
