It is time to give back to Coach Larry Kilby
Donation protected
My name is Hannah, and I am asking you to help our beloved teacher, coach, mentor, motivator, role model, and step-in father-figure, Mr. Larry Kilby. Mr. Kilby is a father of three beautiful daughters and a husband to a beautiful wife. This man is a hero not only to me but to our entire community. I have personally known Coach Kilby throughout my eight seasons on the Track and Field Team at Orange County High School. He is the reason why I am furthering my education and running track at the collegiate level. Mr. Kilby not only helped me decide on the right college to attend as a student-athlete, but he has personally helped hundreds of children find success in their lives and their futures from Orange, Madison, Culpeper, and Louisa. Coach Kilby has personally assisted kids by getting them into college. In addition, Coach Kilby has invested time and energy into hundreds of athletes and even found time to work with students who he did not personally coach. Mr. Kilby, who was the only African-American teacher at OES, has consistently received the highest marks on his teaching and coaching evaluations. For five years, Mr. Kilby has worked from the ground up to create a highly successful Varsity Track program. Under his leadership, the Varsity Track Team has competed and won in our district, across our state, and nationally. In addition, our coach won numerous educational awards (see picture above) and grants for his work with students. He built OCPS’s ED program to help our children who need us the most. He did this by creating a support system to help them overcome their life challenges. He gave all his students his undivided attention and a safe place for them to develop into attributing members of society.
The removal of Mr. Kilby as our coach and the refusal to reinstate Mr. Kilby as a teacher for our students is beyond unacceptable. In response to this injustice and the community outrage, a Petition was created by the community to beg the school board to immediately reissue Mr. Kilby’s teaching and coaching contacts---thousands of people---parents, students, and community supporters signed that petition. The School Board needs to keep hearing our voices. Mr. Kilby, who is also known as Coach by thousands of students, has positively impacted our youth for a lifetime. Please read the remarks about him on the Petition that was shared throughout Facebook and linked below. These testimonies are proof of the great work he has done for our community. To help our coach, we need your help. Please directly email the members of the Orange County School Board. Please write to the editor of the Orange County Review, and please come to the School Board meeting on July 6th, 2020. We know Mr. Kilby. We KNOW his moral character. You know what he has done for our children. He is the very foundation of what is right in our world. As time goes on, his story MUST be told for the safety of our children.
Coach Kilby needs our help. They refuse to hear his one voice but we’re going to make them hear ALL of our voices. I am starting this GoFundMe page to support Mr. Kilby and his family through these difficult times. This is the official page for Coach Kilby. The money will be used to assist Mr. Kilby through this period of transition, in any way he needs-- without burden or fear. We are doing this to help our coach because he has given us so much of him. Coach Kilby has given us not only his time but the running shoes off his feet, money to feed us for dinners after track meets, exposing us to various colleges and universities, helping us set high expectations for ourselves and our community, giving us mental health counseling, loving us as if we were his own children, helping us dream a life beyond the circumstances that we were born into, and being our mentor. He has given us something we could NEVER repay or represent in a dollar amount. Coach Kilby has fought for us and now it is time for us to fight for him. No donation is too small. Thank you for your donation, your time, and your support.
