Islington Food Banks - Social Action Project
Donation protected
Hello! We are a group of second-year university students studying in the School of Policy and Global Affairs at City, University of London. As our university campus is centred around the London Borough of Islington, we have experienced the effects that the current cost of living emergency has had on our community.
Tens of thousands of families from Islington are currently living in fuel poverty, with many receiving housing benefits or council tax support to make ends meet. However, these problems are being greatly exacerbated following a sharp rise in inflation, meaning people are struggling to budget for necessities such as food, toiletries, rent and domestic gas/electricity.
Numerous independent food banks, which help those facing food insecurity, have reported significant increases in the need for their services as a result of the cost of living crisis. Yet, a large proportion of food banks feel underprepared to meet increasing demands due to a drop in food donations as well as supply issues.
Furthermore, we are planning a social action project that aims to raise money to make a direct donation to the major Foodbank organisation FoodCycle, as well as buy and distribute resources to individual food banks in the Islington area. Vulnerable people within our community should not have to face food poverty and insecurity alone. Nobody deserves to face hunger.
Thank you so much for reading about our project - Any contribution will be greatly appreciated.
