Isle of Wight 100km Challenge
Hi everyone!
We will be hiking the 100km Isle of Wight coastal path over the course of two days to raise money for Brighton's wonderful Clock Tower Sanctuary.
Our goal is to raise £1,500 but every penny will make a difference!
The Team
We are a group of colleagues and friends who live and work mostly in Brighton but also further afield. Every year we set ourselves a 100km challenge to support a local charity within the Brighton community. This is our third year of walking 100km!
The Challenge
We are going to walk 100km over 2 days, which is over a marathon and roughly 12 hours walking a day.
Also, to make it that little bit harder we are walking all around the windy, exposed but beautiful Isle of Wight Coastal Path. As well as being 100km of distance, the route also has overall ascent of over 4,000 ft!
The Clock Tower Sanctuary
The Clock Tower Sanctuary was founded in 1998 by a group of concerned people (some of whom still volunteer with us today), who wanted to do something about the rising homelessness in Brighton.
Ever since then, it's been their mission to work with young homeless people to help them to move from crisis to stability.
The Clock Tower Sanctuary is based right in the heart of the city and supported by the amazing local community. They do not receive any government or council funding - and running costs are met by donations from the generous people, schools, businesses and community groups of Brighton & Hove and local and national Trusts & Foundations.
A team of 45 trained volunteers commit their time and energy to supporting the young people who visit the day centre. In 2019, they hosted 4,008 visits from 186 young homeless people who had nowhere else to turn. This was a 17% increase to 2018 and of the young people worked with last year, 69% were new to the service.
43 clients were supported into work, training or education and 45 young people were placed into accommodation. 113 clients took part in activities like yoga, cookery, Men's Group and Women's Group, helping to build their self-esteem and confidence.
- £10 can pay for a young person to have a shower, wash their clothes and eat a healthy, hot meal.
- £20 can pay for a new pair of shoes or clothing for a job interview or first day of work.
- £200 can pay for us to train and support a volunteer to support a young person.
- £500 can pay for a young homeless person to access all of our support and facilities for two months.
Please sponsor us in any way you are able and help our little walking boots make a difference to the Brighton community and help young homeless people.
