Island to Island for Marcos...

Marcos has been a long time working summer resident on Block Island for over 7 years.  Like so many, he works several jobs making sure that all visitors to the Island are content and continue to love Block Island.  The big difference with Marcos is his immense faith that shines from his personality.  It is not uncommon for his coworkers to say that he is "the most positive person I know".  He is well known for his compliments and is affectionately referred to as "Mr. Beautiful".  His view of the world is contagious because he truly sees the beauty in everyone and everything!  If you work on the Island, time off is very precious, Marcos spends most of his days off volunteering at an Island Church.  He is a friend that the Block Island community cherishes and admires.

Block Island is his home and community for the summer but Marcos and his family live in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico.  His home and his community were one of the most devastated by the two hurricanes that wreaked havoc this past September.

Marcos was on Island when both hurricanes hit his home.  He was able to call his wife briefly but heard her cries as the phone was cut off.  Having to wait for the first flights down to Puerto Rico he was left uninformed for over two weeks.  He did not know if his family or his community had survived.  Through all of this, he continued to believe and stay positive, not only for himself but for all of those that were affected by this tragedy.  Once he was able to get to his home, although he had lost everything, he continued to feel blessed because his family was alive.

Puerto Rico was hit first by Hurricane Irma and then followed with a direct hit from Hurricane Maria.  Today several months later they are still without electricity!  Marcos and his family's home are extremely damaged and he is in need of furniture, beds, generators, medical supplies and many other necessary items that are used and needed every day.   Marcos is not only the patriarch of his family but also to his small community of 50 families.  They depend on his charitable attitude, his hard work and generosity for their survival.

Marcos is one of a kind, in his spirit, his ongoing faith, his selflessness and most importantly his friendship to all.   It is our turn to help him.

We cannot send supplies to him; it is difficult to get tangible items sent to where he lives.  This is why we have put together this effort; this will allow him to purchase what he needs for his family and his community.

Marcos needs us, lets do what we can, he is part of our community...from Island to Island.
