Isla and Eleanor take on Nepal
We are Isla Mitchell and Eleanor Graefin von Arnim and we are joining classmates from St Edwards School on a service trip to Nepal this summer. Our journey in Nepal is organized by Global Action and includes seminars on regional history, national and local sustainable development programs, a trek in the Annapourna National park. In addition, we’ll perform service work to contribute towards Nepal achieving its targets for Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) under the UN Sustainable Development Goals. As part of a community project, we will help install clean drinking water tanks in a Nepalese School. We’ll also participate in cultural exchange program and help to teach English.
We are also charged with working and fundraising to cover the costs of our journey. We’ve both worked summer jobs and are busy selling “vintage” hoodies on depop to contribute to our journey costs. In addition, we are undertaking another challenge - to trek the Thames Path from London to Oxford - 100 miles! - to fundraise for our journey, and to help break in our hiking boots for our Annapourna trek. We’ll tackle this in stages over 9 days between October 2024 and May 2025.
Below is our planned itinerary:
Day 1 - Putney Bridge to Ham House Ferry Terminal .. (9.7 miles)
Day 2 - Ham House to Shepperton Landing .. (12.4 miles)
Day 3 - Shepperton Landing to Bells of Ouzeley .. (8.9 miles)
Day 4 - Bells of OUzely to Maidenhead .. (11.5 miles )
Day 5 - Maidenhead to Aston .. (13.0 miles)
Day 6 - Aston to Reading Bridge .. (11.9 miles)
Day 7 - Reading Bridge to South Stoke .. (13.2 miles)
Day 8 - South Stoke to Clifton Hampden .. (12.6 miles)
Day 9 - Clifton Hampden to Folly Bridge, Oxford .. (13.9 miles)
Please consider making a donation in support of our journey to Oxford AND to Nepal!
And, if you’d like to join us for any of these stages, we’d love to have you. The more, the merrier.
Xx Isla and Eleanor
