In recent months, my cousin was sadly diagnosed with mouth cancer and has undergone extensive surgery.

To honour her strength, I originally asked her if I could raise money towards the charity that could help her, but instead she recommended the SATB2 Gene Trust UK, a cause close to her heart, because her daughter lives with this ultra-rare genetic condition.

SATB2-Associated Syndrome (SAS) is an ultra-rare genetic condition caused by a change in the SATB2 gene.
The gene is important for brain development, speech, behaviour, and bone formation. People with SATB2 often experience:
 • Significant speech delays or no speech  
 • Learning disabilities (mild to severe)
 • Low muscle tone and motor delays
 • Feeding or dental issues
 • Behavioural challenges
 • Bone or growth differences

 It affects each person differently, but most need lifelong support. Because it’s so rare, families often struggle to get a diagnosis, specialist care, and research funding. The SATB2 Gene Trust UK helps support families and raise awareness, as well as push forward research and better care.

So in 2026, I’m taking on Ironman Wales, consisting of 140.6 miles of swimming, cycling, and running, not for a medal, but for a purpose that’s far bigger than me.
 I’m racing for the SATB2 community: children and families who face challenges most people will never know. Their resilience makes Ironman look easy. Every mile I cover is for them, to raise awareness, to support families, and to help push research forward. Every donation, no matter the amount, directly helps SATB2 children and the people who care for them.
