In the cover photo is me and my lovely nana, who a few years ago was diagnosed with Alzheimers. Watching the disease advance has been quite frankly horrendous for her and our whole family, and and it's progressed rapidly from her being a bit forgetful to her having absolutely no idea who I am in just a few years.
I'd have loved to tell her about my next adventure in two weeks and for her to understand... but she'd have told me I was a crazy fool I'm sure! This Sunday (15th) I'm attempting my first full ironman (3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and then a full marathon to top it off ). I once heard it described as like doing the London Marathon, but first you have to swim the Bristol Channel from Wales and then cycle to London first and to top it off it's forecast to be 32⁰C I've been training for over a year and sometimes it's absolutely sucked - quite literally blood sweat and tears - but I'm grateful that my mind and body are well enough to allow me to take on this challenge.
So absolutely no pressure at all, but I thought hopefully it was worth raising a bit of money for a charity that aims to stop dementia devastating lives, and thinking of my nana will help me put one foot in front of the other on the day itself.
Thanks all
