Ironman for Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance

Donation protected
Update: Ironman Kalmar has been cancelled. Funds will rollover till 2022. All donated funds will now go to charity.

Many of you may already know me, but for those that do not: Hi my name is Connor Nyberg and I am raising money for Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance (charity number: SC041845).

My Story

I would certainly count myself as a weekend warrior and often find myself exploring remote areas. I was blissfully unaware of how dangerous it could be until one day, a friend of mine injured himself in a remote area. If it weren't for some people nearby, he certainly may have succumbed to the elements.  Thankfully, he is fine today. I brushed it off as a one-off, until a trek down from Ben Nevis, where I witnessed someone injuring themselves and watched them get airlifted out to hospital. This was again a minor amusement until a serious event happened to my partner's grandfather.  Without warning, he had a severe stroke last summer, and because of his remote location, the time it took for the ambulance to reach him and then the hospital cost vital minutes that may have saved his life. I would not wish that on anyone else. I then realised what an important service Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance  (SCAA) provides to those that are in remote areas.  With your help, I hope to aid the SCAA and their efforts in saving lives.

Dr. Norbert Gottschaldt (RIP 24th May 1938-6th September 2020)

How do you plan to do this, and what is an Ironman?

I plan on raising awareness and funds for SCAA by undertaking the Kalmar Ironman in Sweden on  August 2022. For those that are not familiar with an Ironman, it is a long distance race comprised of three events:
A swim that is 2.4-miles (3.86 km) long
A bicycle ride that is 112-miles (180.25 km) long
Finally, it finishes with a marathon-run of 26.22-miles (42.20 km).

This must be done within 17 hours and in that order.

Do not worry, I have been working with a coach for a few months and feel confident that I will be ready for the task!

Where will the money go and how will it be used?

All the costs, registration has been covered by myself. All money raised, with the exception of fees, will now be given to SCAA. SCAA 's website has a detailed breakdown of their expenses.

How soon do you need the funds, and what happens if you pull out?

The funds for transport are needed in by July 15th, 2022, but feel free to donate up to a week after the event (August, 2022). If I happen to pull out a refund will be issued to all donors upon request. The event, myself, and flights will be insured so that if something were to happen, another attempt can be made next year.

About Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance (SC041845)

SCAA currently operates two helicopters, both EC135-T2is, and one rapid response vehicle - taking expert paramedic care to the scene of time-critical emergencies, whether it be on a road, in a field or at someone’s home.  SCAA then transports patients to specialist hospitals to receive the most appropriate advanced care.

SCAA makes a difference - a patient’s chance of survival and full recovery are greatly increased if they receive the right medical care within the first hour of injury or illness.  The fast response of SCAA and its ability to reach Scotland’s most remote and rural areas saves vital minutes when every second really does count.

SCAA can be airborne within five minutes of receiving an emergency call and can reach 90% of Scotland’s population within 25 minutes.

SCAA is an integral part of Scotland’s frontline emergency response network, responding to trauma incidents and medical emergencies across the country, covering an area of more than 30,000 square miles.

As Scotland’s only charity air ambulance, SCAA is funded by the people of Scotland, primarily through donations, fundraising, events and their life-saving lottery.
